A shooting incident occurred at Morgan State University's homecoming celebration in Baltimore, resulting in five individuals sustaining non-threatening injuries.
As a precautionary measure, a four-hour lockdown was initiated, during which individuals on campus sought shelter while law enforcement personnel conducted room-by-room searches for potential suspects. In light of the situation, the historically Black college decided to cancel classes scheduled for Wednesday.

According to Baltimore police officials, the victims range in age from 18 to 22, with four males and one female amongst them. With the exception of one victim, all others are affiliated with MSU. At a news conference held early on Wednesday, Police Commissioner Richard Worley revealed that investigators were uncertain about the number of individuals involved in the shooting. No information regarding suspects has been released by the police, and no arrests have been reported thus far.
The gunfire erupted as students were making their way to a campus ball, shortly after the coronation of Mister and Miss Morgan State at the Murphy Fine Arts Center. An advisory issued by the university directed students to avoid the arts center and Thurgood Marshall Hall, where the shooting transpired, as confirmed by Worley.
Law enforcement officials became aware of the possibility of an active shooter on campus upon hearing gunshots and witnessing the shattering of several dorm windows. Following established protocols, Worley ordered the termination of the shelter-in-place order at approximately 12:30 am local time on Wednesday after SWAT officers cleared a building where a suspect potentially sought refuge, according to the Associated Press. Additionally, the FBI declared via a post on a social media account that it had provided assistance to the Baltimore police.
In the vicinity of the dormitory where the shooting took place, officers conducted searches with flashlights, meticulously gathering evidence. The encircled building was marked with yellow crime tape, and orange evidence markers were positioned on the ground adjacent to it.
